Vulgus came out in 1984 for arcades, developed and published by Capcom. It was one of their earliest shooters, arriving before they became known for more complex titles. The game fits right into that era of straightforward, high-score focused arcade cabinets where you just dropped a coin and started blasting.
You control a small spacecraft, moving it around the screen to shoot down waves of alien enemies. Your main goal is simply to survive as long as possible and rack up points. Two mechanics stand out: you can fire a standard rapid shot, or deploy a limited supply of screen-clearing bombs when overwhelmed. The pacing is relentless; enemies pour in from all sides, and the difficulty escalates quickly with each stage. It feels tense and immediate, like you're constantly on the edge of being overrun.
