Wario's Woods came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, developed and published by Nintendo. It arrived late in the SNES lifecycle, offering a puzzle experience that felt distinct from the platformers and RPGs dominating the system at the time.
You control Toad, who moves around a single-screen arena filled with monsters and bombs. The goal is to clear each stage by matching colors; you pick up enemies and bombs, then arrange them so that a bomb touches at least two monsters of the same color. Bombs detonate those monsters, and cascading combos can clear large sections at once. The pace is relentless, with new rows of creatures constantly dropping from above, and later stages demand quick decisions under pressure. It feels like a race against the screen filling up, and pulling off a long chain reaction brings a sharp sense of relief.
