Warlocked came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Bits Studios. It was a time when real-time strategy games were rare on handhelds, and this one tried to fit that ambitious genre onto the small screen. You choose to lead either the human kingdom or the beast horde, each with their own campaign and units.
You control a wizard who moves across the map, building structures, gathering mana, and recruiting units like knights or griffins. The main goal is to destroy the enemy's base while defending your own. Key mechanics include directing your units with simple commands, casting spells that turn enemies into chickens or temporarily seize control of their fighters, and managing resources to keep your army growing. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can spike during larger skirmishes. It feels like conducting a messy, magical war from the palm of your hand.
