Warrior Blade, also known as Rastan Saga Episode III, came out in arcades in 1995 from Taito. It was part of that late 80s and early 90s wave of side-scrolling action games, where fantasy settings and cooperative play started to become more common. The game built on the foundation of its predecessors but introduced a few new ideas that made it stand out among other titles in the genre at the time.
You control one of three characters, each with a distinct weapon: Rastan with his sword, Dewey with a spear, or Sophia using a whip. Your goal is to fight through screen after screen of monsters and bosses, clearing each area before moving forward. The combat lets you perform basic attacks, special moves, and even jump onto larger enemies like dragons for extra damage. It's a fast, sometimes frantic experience with a steady difficulty curve that keeps you alert. Playing it feels like a constant, satisfying scramble against overwhelming odds.
