Play Wave Race (USA, Europe) Online
Tight jet ski racing where waves throw off your turns—mess up the timing and you’re eating water. Surprisingly deep physics for a Game Boy game, with that janky water animation somehow selling the chaos.

Wave Race for the Game Boy came out in 1992, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those early handheld racers that tried to do something a little different, focusing on water physics when most games were still on solid ground. It didn't have the flash of console racers, but it had its own quiet ambition.
You control a jet ski racer through a series of winding courses, navigating buoys and competing for the best time. The main objective is to complete laps as quickly as possible while hitting the correct colored buoys to maintain your speed. Signature mechanics include the wave physics that affect your handling, requiring careful timing on turns, and the buoy gate system that penalizes missed or wrong hits. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty ramps up noticeably as water conditions get rougher. It feels unpredictable and physical in a way that makes every race a tense negotiation with the water.
