Play WinBack (J) Online
Duck behind crates, blind-fire around corners, and clear rooms methodically—this N64 shooter’s cover system felt revolutionary back then. The Japanese version tweaks enemy placements just enough to keep you on your toes.

I first played WinBack on the Nintendo 64 back in 1999, developed by Omega Force and published by Koei. It was a third-person shooter that stood out on a console better known for platformers and adventure games, offering a more tactical, cover-based approach when many shooters still felt straightforward and run-and-gun.
You control Jean-Luc Cougar, a special ops agent sent to reclaim a hijacked satellite control center. The game is structured in distinct, screen-by-screen areas where you use a robust cover system to peek, lean, and fire from behind obstacles. Enemy placements in the Japanese version are slightly altered, making some encounters more unpredictable. The pacing is deliberate; you move carefully, clear rooms methodically, and manage limited ammo. It feels tense and calculated, demanding patience and precision over reflexes.
