Winter Challenge came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Accolade. It was part of that wave of early 90s sports games that tried to cover a lot of ground, offering a whole Olympic style package instead of focusing on just one event. It fit right in with other multi-event titles of the time, aiming for breadth over simulation depth.

You control an athlete competing in seven different winter sports, from bobsled and ski jumping to figure skating and downhill racing. The main objective is to earn the highest total score across all events to win the gold medal. Signature mechanics include the split screen competition in races, which lets you directly compete against a friend or the CPU, and the timing based button presses for executing tricks in the freestyle events. The pacing is quick, event to event, but the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially in the precision required for the luge or the landing timing in ski jumping. It feels like a chaotic, sometimes janky, weekend of winter sports condensed into a single cartridge.
