Wonder Momo came out in 1987 as an arcade game from Namco. It was part of that era where beat 'em ups were starting to get popular, but it stood out with its stage show theme. You play as an actress who transforms into a superhero to fight off an alien invasion, all while performing on a theater set.
You control Momo, moving left and right across a single plane to punch and kick enemies that approach from both sides. Your main goal is to clear each wave of aliens before the timer runs out. One of the signature mechanics is using a hula hoop as a projectile weapon; you can throw it to hit multiple enemies, but you have to wait for it to return. Another key feature is avoiding the cameras that pop up from the audience—if they flash, you lose a life. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as more enemies appear. It feels frantic but satisfying when you land a good combo and hear the crowd cheer.
