Game Overview

World Class Rugby came out on the Amiga in 1991 from Audiogenic Software. It was one of the more serious attempts at a rugby simulation during that era, offering a structured alternative to the arcade-style sports games that were common. The presentation was straightforward, with clean menus and a focus on the mechanics of the sport itself rather than flashy graphics or licenses.

You control a full team of fifteen players, directing their movement and initiating passes, kicks, and tackles. The main objective is to win matches by outscoring the computer or a friend, either in a one-off game or through a league tournament. Key mechanics include setting up and contesting scrums and line-outs, which require good timing to win possession. You also manage tactical kicks for territory and can attempt drop goals for quick points. The pacing is deliberate, favoring strategic play over frantic action, and the higher difficulty levels demand precise execution. It feels like a thoughtful, almost chess-like interpretation of rugby where every set piece matters.
