Game Overview

Wurm on NES is one of those weird, ambitious games that tries to do a lot—part shooter, part platformer, with a transforming mech as your ride. You start off blasting through horizontal shooter sections, then suddenly drop into side-scrolling action when you hit the ground. The shift between modes feels clunky at first, like the game can't decide what it wants to be.

Your mech handles like a tank with stiff jumps, and the hit detection is rough—enemies seem to clip you when they shouldn’t. The music’s got that classic NES synth energy, though, and the alien designs are oddly detailed for how small they are on screen. It’s the kind of game where you’ll die a lot just figuring out how the mechanics work.

Wurm isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely more interesting in concept than execution. You’ll either push through the jank or give up after a few levels.
