Xena Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate came out in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, developed by Saffire and published by Titus Software. It was part of that wave of licensed games trying to capture the energy of a TV show, and on the N64, it stood out as one of the few fighting games based on an action series. The hardware wasn't exactly overflowing with fighters, so this one had its own niche.

You pick a character from the show, like Xena or Gabrielle, and fight through a series of one-on-one or four-player battles across different arenas. The main goal is to defeat your opponents and collect pieces of the Talisman of Fate. You use a mix of melee attacks with swords and staffs, along with ranged options like Xena's chakram, which you can aim and recall. The pacing is fast, sometimes too fast, and the camera can make things confusing when there's a lot happening. It doesn't always control smoothly, but landing a chakram hit from across the stage while someone else is getting comboed never gets old.
