Game Overview
Xenon 2: Megablast came out in 1989 for the Amiga, published by Image Works and developed by The Bitmap Brothers. It was one of those shooters that stood out at the time, partly because of its polished presentation and the way it pushed the hardware. The game arrived during a period when the Amiga was showing what it could really do with graphics and sound, and Xenon 2 took full advantage.
You pilot a small, nimble ship through vertically scrolling levels packed with enemy formations and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to survive each stage, defeat the boss waiting at the end, and move on to the next. You collect cash dropped by destroyed enemies, which you spend between levels on permanent upgrades like new weapons, rear shots, and shield enhancements. The levels are dense with enemies and obstacles, demanding quick reflexes and careful positioning. It feels fast, challenging, and immensely satisfying when you finally clear a tough section with a fully upgraded ship.
