Xevious is one of those old-school arcade shooters that somehow still feels great to play. You're piloting this little ship, dodging enemy fire while blasting away at ground targets and flying foes. The controls are dead simple, arrows to move, 'Z' to shoot air targets, 'X' to bomb stuff below you, but don't let that fool you. Those first few waves seem manageable until the screen suddenly fills with bullets and zigzagging enemies.
What I love is how the game forces you to split your attention. One second you're lining up a shot on a tank below, the next you're frantically weaving between purple energy balls from above. The remake keeps the original's crisp pixel art and that satisfying "pew-pew" sound when your shots connect. It's harder than most modern shooters, but that just makes clearing a tough section way more rewarding.
If you've never played a vertical scroller before, this is a solid place to start, just don't expect to beat it on your first try.
