Game Overview
Yggdra Union is one of those GBA strategy RPGs that feels way bigger than it has any right to be. You start off leading this ragtag rebel princess and her tiny army across these grid-based battlefields, but what makes it stick is how weirdly personal the fights get. Instead of just moving units around, you're literally linking them together in formations—like, your archer covers the swordsman while he charges in, and if you mess up the timing, everything falls apart.
The card system had me scratching my head at first (why are there poker suits on my magic spells?), but after a few battles it clicks. Turns out holding a flush lets you pull off ridiculous combos, and watching your whole squad dogpile an enemy never gets old. Just don't expect Fire Emblem—here, even basic fights feel like solving a puzzle where someone's actively trying to stab you.
It's got that classic Sting jank where some mechanics feel half-broken in the best way possible. I still think about that time my healer somehow parried a dragon.
