Konami released Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Card Almanac for the Nintendo DS in 2006, a time when the handheld was full of experimental titles and deep, niche ports. You control a custom student at Duel Academy, moving between locations on a simple map to challenge other characters. The main goal is to win duels, earn new cards, and refine your deck against increasingly tricky opponents. The game focuses on deck building and manual card searching; you spend a lot of time sifting through your collection outside of battles, testing combinations. Actual duels play out using standard TCG rules, with the DS touchscreen making it easy to navigate menus and place cards. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the AI can punish inconsistent strategies. It feels like having a dense, slightly clunky binder of every card you wished you owned, always ready for one more duel.
