Game Overview

Zaxxon-mame is one of those old-school arcade games that still feels surprisingly fresh—mostly because that weird isometric perspective makes dodging obstacles way harder than it looks. You're piloting this little spaceship through these fortress-like levels, weaving between walls while enemy turrets take potshots at you. The controls take a minute to get used to (diagonal movement feels oddly stiff at first), but once it clicks, there's something satisfying about threading the needle between laser beams.

It's tougher than most arcade shooters from that era—one wrong move and you're scraping against a tower or eating a missile. The color-coded fuel system adds this nice layer of tension too; run low and suddenly you're sweating every unnecessary maneuver. Definitely worth firing up in MAME if you miss that particular flavor of 80s arcade frustration.
