Zaxxon 3-D came out for the Sega Master System in 1987, developed and published by Sega. It was one of the few Master System titles that used the SegaScope 3-D glasses, a peripheral that gave the illusion of depth on screen. At the time, it felt like a glimpse into the future, even if the effect was a bit gimmicky and required good lighting to work properly.

You pilot a ship through isometric levels, navigating tight corridors and open combat zones while managing your fuel supply. The main objective is to survive each stage, destroy enemy crafts, and eventually take down a boss. Signature mechanics include judging the altitude of your ship to avoid obstacles and enemy fire, and collecting fuel pods to extend your flight time. The pacing is relentless; one moment you're dodging swarms of ships in open space, the next you're squeezed into a tunnel, scraping against walls while scrambling for fuel. It feels tense and demanding, especially when the boss shows up and wrecks you just when you think you've got a handle on things.
