Zoids Saga came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed and published by Tomy. It was part of that early wave of GBA titles that really tried to push what a handheld RPG could be, with a focus on tactical, mech-based combat instead of the usual fantasy fare.
You control a pilot who commands a team of Zoids, biomechanical animals you customize with different weapons and armor. The main goal is to progress through a story driven by turn based battles on an isometric grid. Between fights, you explore towns and the world map, talking to people and managing your team's gear. The combat is methodical; positioning your Zoids to flank enemies or use terrain cover is crucial, and a bad equipment choice can leave you helpless. It feels satisfying to outthink an opponent and dismantle their squad with a well executed plan.
