Zool 2 picks up right where the first game left off—except now our ninja from the Nth Dimension can actually climb walls and pull off these ridiculous spinning attacks. You’ve got six wild levels to tear through, each split into bite-sized stages. Swan Lake starts off deceptively pretty before throwing weird enemies at you, and Mount Ices is exactly what it sounds like: slippery chaos. (The CD32 version sneaks in an extra level, Paper Plains, which feels like sprinting through a deranged origami nightmare.)

You’re still collecting those little candy tokens—gotta grab 99% of them before time runs out—but now there’s way more to mess with. Power-ups pop up everywhere: bombs that tail you until you detonate them, temporary invincibility, that sort of thing. And if Zool’s not your style, you can play as Zooz, his girlfriend, who handles levels a bit differently. Oh, and keep an eye out for hidden spots—somewhere in there’s a secret Breakout mini-game starring Zool’s two-headed space dog. Because of course there is.

It’s fast, it’s loud, and half the fun is figuring out how to cheese the scrolling levels before the timer gets you.
