Play 2 Pak Special Yellow - Star Warrior,Frogger Online
Two weird Atari games in one: Star Warrior’s a clunky space maze where you shoot questionable pixel blobs, while Frogger still nails that panic of dodging chunky cars with your doomed frog.
I picked up 2 Pak Special Yellow, Star Warrior and Frogger, for the Atari 2600 around 1990. It was one of those budget double packs that showed up late in the system's life, a simple cartridge with two very different games crammed onto it. There wasn't much fanfare; you just plugged it in and hoped for the best.
In Star Warrior, you control a small ship navigating tight, maze-like corridors. Your objective is to shoot the alien creatures that drift toward you while avoiding walls and enemy fire. The movement feels heavy, almost sluggish, and the screen scrolls one section at a time, making navigation a deliberate, sometimes frustrating process. Frogger, on the other hand, is the classic arcade port where you guide a frog across a hazardous road and river. You have to time your hops between speeding cars, then hop on logs and turtles to reach the safety of the lily pads. The controls are precise, but the difficulty ramps up quickly with faster traffic and disappearing platforms. Playing these two back to back is a study in contrasts, one a slow crawl through claustrophobic space and the other a tense race against the clock.
