Play 3x3 Eyes - Juuma Houkan (Japan) Online
Swing your sword through creepy temples with Pai hovering at your side, then panic when demons swarm you and you fumble to remember which button casts fireball. The pixel art nails that gothic manga vibe, and the bosses don’t care if you didn’t memorize their patterns.

3x3 Eyes: Juuma Houkan came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Natsume and published by Yutaka. It was part of that wave of licensed manga and anime games that tried to capture a specific look and feel, often with mixed results, but this one had a certain moody charm that stood out.
You control Yakumo, a young man bound to the immortal three-eyed girl Pai, as you explore temples and ruins, fighting demons with a sword and a handful of spells. The game progresses screen by screen, with some light platforming and a lot of backtracking through maze-like areas. Combat is straightforward but can get frantic when multiple enemies close in, and the difficulty is fairly high, demanding careful resource management and pattern recognition. It feels like a slow, deliberate crawl through a world that’s both beautiful and unforgiving.
