Dynamix released A-10 Tank Killer in 1989 for MS-DOS, a time when flight sims were pushing the limits of what PCs could handle. It was a straightforward military sim focused on the A-10 Thunderbolt, a plane built for one job: destroying ground targets. The game didn't try to be everything; it just did its thing with a kind of gritty, functional seriousness.
You pilot the A-10 across a series of missions, hunting tanks, convoys, and installations behind enemy lines. The core of the game is managing your weapons, especially the famous GAU-8 Avenger cannon that rips through armor with a satisfying shudder. You have to carefully plan your attack runs, manage fuel and ammunition, and often double back to hit targets you missed. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is unforgiving; a single mistake can lead to a cascade of failures. It feels like a tense, calculated exercise in destruction where every shot matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
