Game Overview

Okay, so A Sound of Thunder on GBA is one of those weird little movie tie-ins that somehow ended up being kind of fun despite itself. You play as Travis Ryer, some time-traveling dude who screwed up the timeline (classic) and now has to fix it while dinosaurs and other prehistoric nasties pop up everywhere. The levels are these short, arcade-y bursts where you’re blasting raptors with a futuristic rifle or dodging pterodactyls—it’s janky, but in that way where you can’t help but laugh when a T-Rex glitches through a wall.

Graphics are about what you’d expect from a mid-tier GBA game—lots of muddy greens and browns, but the dinosaur designs are actually decent. The controls take a minute to get used to, especially the wonky jumping, but once you adjust, it’s weirdly satisfying to mow down a pack of dino mutants. Not gonna lie, the story makes zero sense if you haven’t seen the movie (and even then…), but who’s here for plot when you’ve got a gun that shoots time bubbles?

Definitely more fun than it has any right to be, especially if you’re into B-tier action games. Just don’t think too hard about the time paradox stuff.
