I picked up Ace Combat: Joint Assault back in 2010 on the PSP, a time when handhelds were really pushing what portable games could do. The game doesn't try to reinvent the series, but it brings that familiar high altitude action into your hands without much fuss.

You pilot a fighter jet through missions that range from escort duty to full scale assaults on massive airborne fortresses. The main goal is usually to complete objectives, protect allies, or wipe out enemy squadrons. Key mechanics include the Aircraft Tree for unlocking new planes and parts, and the cooperative multiplayer mode where you can tackle missions with a partner. The pacing stays pretty intense; you're constantly managing missiles, dodging lock ons, and repositioning for the perfect shot. It feels fast, responsive, and totally absorbing when you get into a rhythm of dodging and firing.
