Play ActRaiser (Japan) Online

You slash through monsters in tight platforming stages, then zoom out to play god—strategically building towns that make you stronger when you dive back into combat. That wild back-and-forth just clicks.

Game Overview

ActRaiser came out for the Super Nintendo in 1990, developed by Quintet and published by Enix. It was one of the early titles that showed what the SNES could do, blending two very different styles of gameplay into one cohesive experience.

You play as a deity who awakens to find the world overrun by monsters. The game alternates between side-scrolling action stages where you control an avatar with a sword, jumping and fighting through enemy-filled levels, and a top-down simulation mode where you guide your followers to rebuild civilization. Clearing areas in the action stages makes space for new settlements; developing those towns then grants you new abilities or health upgrades for the next combat section. The pacing is deliberate, with the simulation portions offering a calm contrast to the sometimes challenging platforming and combat. It feels thoughtful and varied, like managing two interconnected worlds at once.
