Game Overview

Advance Wars: Dual Strike came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It was part of that early wave of DS games that really tried to use both screens in a meaningful way, not just as a menu space. The series had already built a solid following on the Game Boy Advance, and this entry expanded on that foundation without reinventing the core appeal.

You control an army of varied units, from infantry and tanks to battleships and bombers, moving them across grid-based maps to capture cities, produce reinforcements, and destroy enemy forces. The main objective is to either eliminate all opposing units or capture their headquarters. The dual screen setup lets you manage two separate fronts simultaneously, which adds a significant layer of strategic multitasking. Another key mechanic is the CO Power system, where your commanding officers can unleash special abilities that might heal your units, boost their firepower, or damage enemies across the map. The pacing is methodical; you spend a lot of time calculating moves, managing funds, and anticipating counterattacks. It feels like a constant, engaging puzzle where every decision carries weight.
