Adventures of the Smurfs on the Game Boy Color is basically that—a simple but weirdly satisfying side-scroller where you hop on giant mushrooms, grab floating stars (because of course they float), and occasionally fall into pits that definitely shouldn’t exist in a peaceful forest. The colors pop way more than you’d expect from a GBC game, and the music’s got that bouncy, slightly off-key charm that makes you feel like you’re inside a 90s cartoon.

It’s not exactly hard—you’ll probably beat it in an afternoon—but there’s something about the way Smurfette’s hair bounces when she jumps or the way Gargamel’s sprite looks like he hasn’t slept in weeks. Half the fun is seeing how they translated the show’s vibe into chunky pixels. Just watch out for Azrael; that cat moves faster than anything else in the game, which feels unfair but also weirdly true to the source material.
