Guide Aero the Acro-Bat through circus-themed levels, bounce on trampolines, spin to defeat enemies, and collect rings while dodging obstacles to take down the evil clown, Edgar Ektor.
Aero the Acro-Bat came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Sunsoft. It was part of that wave of early 90s platformers where developers were experimenting with animal mascots and trying to carve out a space next to giants like Sonic. The game had a distinct circus theme that set it apart, even if it didn't reach the same level of recognition.
You control Aero, a bat and circus performer, navigating side-scrolling stages filled with enemies, obstacles, and collectible rings. The main goal is to defeat the evil clown, Edgar Ektor, by progressing through themed worlds. Signature mechanics include using trampolines to gain height, performing mid-air spins to attack enemies, and carefully timing glides to cross wide gaps. The pacing is methodical, with levels that demand precision; the difficulty can be steep, especially in later stages where hazards come thick and fast. It feels floaty and unconventional at first, but once you adapt to the rhythm of bouncing and spinning, moving through the stages becomes a peculiar kind of satisfying.
