Play Ajax Online
You're in a tiny helicopter dodging tanks and jets, dying in seconds—until you don't, and suddenly you're threading bullets like a pixel god.
Ajax is a vertically scrolling shooter released for MS-DOS in 1987, developed by Zippo Games and published by Thalion Software. It appeared during a period when the PC was becoming a more common platform for arcade style games, offering a clear alternative to the Commodore 64 and Amiga titles of the time. The game presents a straightforward military conflict scenario, pitting your helicopter against waves of ground and air forces.
You pilot a small helicopter, moving it across the screen to avoid enemy fire from tanks, jets, and turrets while shooting back with your default cannon. The main objective is simply to survive as long as possible, destroying everything in your path to rack up a high score. Key mechanics include collecting power-ups that upgrade your weapon to a spread shot or lasers, and a limited supply of smart bombs that clear the entire screen of enemies. The pacing is relentless, with enemy bullets and vehicles quickly filling the screen, making precise movement essential. It feels like a constant test of reflexes and pattern recognition, where a single mistake can end a run instantly. Success comes from memorizing enemy spawns and learning to weave through tight spaces in the chaos.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
