Game Overview

Konami released Amazing Penguin for the Game Boy in 1990, a time when handheld games often focused on simple, repeatable mechanics. It was one of many puzzle platformers on the system, not particularly flashy but built around a clear, consistent idea. You control a penguin sliding around on ice, tasked with clearing each stage by covering the floor in a specific pattern.

You move the penguin across a grid-based screen, sliding until you hit a wall or obstacle. Your main goal is to fill all the empty tiles by kicking dots that expand into colored blocks; once the entire floor is covered, you advance. Enemies respawn constantly from nests, sliding around and erasing your progress if they cross your laid path, so you must either avoid them or temporarily stun them by kicking a block their way. The game demands careful route planning and quick reactions, especially in later stages where the layouts get more complex and enemies multiply. It feels satisfying to efficiently plot a path and seal off a screen without leaving yourself trapped.
