Game Overview

I picked up The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on the original Game Boy, a release from LJN that came out in the early 90s. It was a time when handheld games were simple, often adaptations of bigger console titles, and this one tried to bring Spidey's action into your pocket. The graphics were basic, with small sprites and limited animation, but it was still Spider-Man, and that was enough to catch my interest.

You control Spider-Man through side-scrolling levels, moving from left to right while punching and kicking various thugs. The main goal is to defeat enemies and reach the end of each stage, though some levels have you searching for keys or avoiding environmental hazards. Signature mechanics include web-swinging, which feels more like a short hop than a swing, and wall climbing, which is slow and methodical. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving due to stiff controls and limited lives. It feels like a product of its time, challenging but satisfying when you finally make progress.
