Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six came out on the NES in 1992, developed by Bits Studios and published by LJN. It was one of the later releases for the system, arriving when players were already looking ahead to the 16-bit generation, but it offered a solid, challenging side-scrolling experience for those still loyal to the 8-bit hardware.
You control Spider-Man through six stages, each themed around a different member of the Sinister Six. You move screen by screen, punching and kicking enemies, avoiding environmental hazards, and using your web shooters to swing across gaps or temporarily stun foes. The main goal is straightforward: defeat each villain and stop Doctor Octopus’s plan. The game is known for its high difficulty; you have a single life, no continues, and enemies respawn quickly. Navigating the stages requires careful timing, especially during the web-swinging sections where a missed jump means instant death. Playing it feels tense and demanding, rewarding patience and precise control more than reckless action.
