I picked up Spider-Man 3: Invasion of the Spider-Slayers on Game Boy back in 1993, a time when handheld games were all about short bursts of action between car rides or before bed. You control Spider-Man through a series of levels, moving screen by screen, punching and webbing up robotic enemies while avoiding environmental hazards like pits and electrical beams. The main goal is straightforward: stop the Spider-Slayers from causing chaos across the city. You swing from webs, climb walls, and occasionally face off against larger boss robots that require specific patterns to defeat. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages, especially with limited continues. It feels like a compact, sometimes frustrating challenge that captures the simple thrill of being Spider-Man in a 8-bit world.
