Anno 1701 on the DS is one of those games that makes you forget you're holding a tiny handheld. At first, it feels like a miracle they crammed a full city-builder onto the system—you start with a single ship, drop settlers on an island, and suddenly you're obsessing over whether to build a lumber mill or a fishery first.
The trade routes are where it gets really addictive. You'll find yourself shuffling tobacco and spices between islands like some 18th-century shipping magnate, all while trying to keep your colonists from revolting because they ran out of rum. The stylus controls work surprisingly well for placing roads and managing resources, though I still fumble when trying to rotate the map.
It's not as deep as the PC version, but that's kind of the charm—you get the satisfying core loop of balancing production chains and expansion without drowning in menus. Just don't blame me when you lose track of time because "one more trade deal" turns into an hour.
