Play Appleseed Online
Blast through ruined cities as cyberpunk cops, swapping between pistols and grenades when the enemy waves get thick—SNES-era action with that gritty Shirow aesthetic.

Appleseed came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Visit Co. It was part of that wave of games trying to capture the look and feel of Masamune Shirow's cyberpunk manga, which was a pretty big deal at the time. You don't see many games from that era with such a specific, detailed visual style, and it definitely stood out on the shelf.
You control Deunan Knute, a member of the ESWAT police force, navigating through side-scrolling levels filled with mechanical enemies. Your main goal is to fight through each stage, clearing out hostiles and surviving until the end. The gameplay involves a lot of running and gunning; you can switch between a standard pistol and a limited supply of grenades on the fly to handle different threats. The levels are linear but packed with enemies that pour in from both sides of the screen, demanding constant movement and quick weapon decisions. It's a challenging, fast-paced shooter that keeps you alert from start to finish. Playing it feels like being in the middle of a chaotic firefight where one wrong move can end your run.
