Army Men 2 on the Game Boy Color came out in 2000, published by 3DO. It was part of that wave of handheld games where you got a full mission based experience, not just a quick time waster. The graphics were simple but functional, and it fit right in with other action titles on the system at the time.
You control Sarge, a green plastic soldier, through a series of missions set in household environments. Your main goal is to eliminate tan army forces while navigating obstacles like furniture and garden hazards. Signature mechanics include screen by screen exploration, using a variety of weapons like rifles and grenades, and occasionally driving vehicles. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike in later stages, especially when enemies swarm. It feels satisfying to methodically clear each area and push forward into new terrain.
