Asphalt: Urban GT on the DS is one of those early handheld racers that somehow makes tiny pixels feel fast. You’ve got these tight city tracks where you’re weaving between traffic, barely missing buses, and occasionally scraping the side of your car against a guardrail (whoops). The controls take a second to click—holding the stylus feels weird at first, but then you’re drifting around corners like it’s second nature.
The car selection’s decent for a DS launch title—nothing crazy, but you’ll recognize a few real-world models. And yeah, the graphics were impressive back in 2004, though these days it’s more charming than stunning. Still, there’s something satisfying about nailing a perfect lap while your little rearview mirror fills up with rivals eating your dust.
