Atari's Greatest Hits - Volume 1 for the DS is basically a time machine back to the arcade era—except now you can play these classics on the bus. You’ve got Asteroids, where I still panic when the screen fills up with rocks, and Missile Command, which somehow feels even more stressful with a stylus. The controls take a minute to get used to, but after a few rounds, it clicks.

Centipede’s still weirdly addictive, and there’s something satisfying about the simplicity of these games—no tutorials, no microtransactions, just you versus a high score. The DS screen’s a little cramped for some of them, but it’s a solid way to kill time if you’re into retro stuff. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of an hour trying to beat your own Asteroids record.
