Game Overview
So, Athena for the NES is this weirdly charming little game where you play as the actual goddess Athena—except she's bored out of her mind in her castle and decides to just... leave. Like, she ditches her divine responsibilities to go brawl with monsters in some fantasy world. Classic.
You start off pretty underpowered, but soon you're grabbing whatever weapons you can find—a clunky ball and chain, a bow that feels oddly satisfying to shoot, and eventually a sword that actually lets you hold your own. The real fun comes when you stumble on power-ups that turn you into a winged warrior or, my personal favorite, a mermaid who fights sharks underwater. It's janky in that old-school NES way, but there's something oddly addictive about it.
