Attack of the Killer Tomatoes on Game Boy came out in 1992 from THQ, a time when licensed games were everywhere and expectations were often low. It was based on the cult film series, so you knew going in it wasn't going to be a serious affair. The game fit right in with other quirky, low budget titles that filled the portable library back then.
You control Wilbur Finletter, a government agent tasked with stopping the tomato invasion. The main goal is to clear each stage by defeating all the enemy tomatoes before a strict timer expires. You move screen by screen, kicking smaller tomatoes off their skateboards and throwing swords at larger boss tomatoes. The pacing is frantic, the controls are a bit stiff, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. Playing it feels like wrestling with a clunky toy that somehow still makes you smile.
