Dodge bullets and spray fire in grimy pixel corridors while synth beats blast—bosses eat half your ammo before you respawn mid-"Game Over" screen.

Avenger was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled several titles from the early PC gaming era. It was developed by Bitmap Brothers and published by Renegade Software, arriving at a time when action games were pushing the limits of what simple graphics and sound could achieve. The game fits right into that period of experimentation, where developers were crafting challenging experiences without the cinematic flair of later years.
You control a lone soldier navigating through a series of maze-like, multi-screen levels filled with enemy soldiers, turrets, and robotic threats. Your main objective is to survive each stage, locate the exit, and eliminate anything that moves along the way. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, where each new area loads with its own set of enemies and hazards, and a dual-weapon system that lets you switch between a standard rapid-fire gun and limited, more powerful missiles. The pacing is relentless; enemies respawn quickly, and ammunition management is crucial, forcing you to pick your shots carefully. It feels like a tense, methodical scramble where every corner could be your last.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
