I picked up Bal Cube in 2020, an arcade-style game from GameDev Studios. It came out during a period when a lot of smaller developers were revisiting straightforward, high-score focused mechanics, and this one fit right in. It doesn't try to be anything more than what it is, which is a game about keeping a cube in motion and avoiding disaster.
You control a blue cube at the bottom of the screen, spinning it left or right to deflect blocks that fall from above. The main goal is to survive as long as possible by preventing any block from reaching the bottom row. Some blocks shatter on impact, others bounce your cube with unpredictable force, and a few special ones grant temporary shields or slow time. The pacing is relentless; the blocks fall faster and in more complex patterns as your score climbs. It feels like a constant, tense negotiation with chaos, where one mistimed spin can end a good run.
