Barbie: Pet Rescue on Game Boy Color is way more involved than you'd expect—it's basically a whole pet rescue adventure with mini-games crammed into that little cartridge. After a storm scatters pets and wild animals across Green Arbor Park, you play as Barbie driving around in scooters, cars, or boats (while dodging obstacles, because of course) to track them down.

Some animals just let you scoop them up, but others make you work for it—like that weird safari photo mini-game where you’ve gotta snap pics at the right moment, or the Breakout-style ice cream challenge. Once you get them back to the rescue center, you’re basically a vet-slash-daycare-worker: patching them up with bandages, figuring out which food they actually like (hint: not all of them want vitamins), and playing memory games or maze runs to cheer them up.

The best part? Before returning each animal, there’s this janky little puzzle where you reassemble a scrambled photo of their owner under a time limit. It’s oddly satisfying when you nail it. The whole thing’s saved with passwords, so good luck keeping track of those if you’re playing on an actual Game Boy. Definitely one of the more bizarrely detailed Barbie games out there.
