Game Overview

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker on Game Boy Color throws you right into Terry McGinnis’s boots—this isn’t your dad’s Batman. Bruce is too old for this now, so it’s up to you to punch your way through waves of Jokerz goons in a classic side-scrolling brawler. The first level drops you at Gotham Air & Space after a break-in, and within minutes you’re knee-deep in neon-clad thugs.

What I like: the combat’s simple but satisfying—basic punches and kicks, plus random gadgets like Batwings or a weirdly fun discus you can chuck at enemies. The levels sometimes split into alternate paths, so if you take the high road (literally, in some cases), you’ll run into different fights than if you’d stayed on the ground. It’s not revolutionary, but the branching bits keep it from feeling like a straight hallway beatdown.

Fair warning: the dialogue scenes are… very Game Boy Color. Tiny text, big pauses. But hey, it’s 2000-era Batman fan service with a decent soundtrack and some fun boss fights. If you’re into retro brawlers or the Batman Beyond vibe, it’s a solid way to burn an afternoon.
