Battle Circuit came out in 1997 for arcades, developed and published by Capcom. It was one of their later beat 'em ups, arriving when the genre's popularity in arcades was starting to wane, but it didn't hold back on the weirdness or the spectacle. You could tell they were just having fun with it, throwing in whatever wild ideas they had left in the tank.
You pick from a team of bizarre bounty hunters, each with their own strange attacks, and fight through screen after screen of enemies to complete missions. The main goal is to clear each stage by defeating every opponent, often culminating in a large boss fight. Key mechanics include collecting power-up chips from defeated foes to purchase new special moves between levels, and performing team-up attacks with a partner if you're playing cooperatively. The pacing is fast and relentless, with a moderate difficulty that encourages replaying to master each character's expanded move set. It feels like controlled, joyful destruction from start to finish.
