Play Battle of Olympus, The Online
You slash through Greek myths as Orpheus, dodging cyclops and picking up godly upgrades while the underworld’s soundtrack somehow gets stuck in your head.
Battle of Olympus came out on the NES in 1988, developed by Infinity. It was part of that wave of action-adventure games that drew clear inspiration from titles like Zelda II, offering a side-scrolling take on mythological exploration. You don't see many games fully committed to a Greek setting like this one was.
You control Orpheus, a hero trying to rescue his love, Helene, from the underworld. Your journey involves methodical, screen-by-screen exploration of the overworld and labyrinthine dungeons, fighting monsters with a short-range sword and a bow you acquire later. You collect items like the Winged Sandals for higher jumps and seek out blessings from the gods to increase your power. The pacing is deliberate, the platforming can be demanding, and the cryptic clues about where to go next ensure you pay close attention. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes punishing trek through a world that is beautiful and hostile in equal measure.
