Battle of Olympus came out on Game Boy in 1993, developed by Infinity and published by Nintendo. It was part of that wave of action-adventure games that really tried to stretch what the handheld could do, with big, connected worlds you could explore at your own pace. It never got the same attention as some other titles, but it had a quiet, thoughtful presence.
You control Orpheus, a hero trying to rescue his love from the underworld. You travel across ancient Greece, fighting monsters with a short-range sword and, eventually, a bow. The world is broken into distinct screens you move between, and you slowly gather items and god-given powers to access new areas. Itโs methodical, sometimes frustratingly slow, and the combat is simple but demands patience. Playing it feels like carefully unfolding a delicate, slightly cryptic map.
