Game Overview

Battle Submarine came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Pack-In-Video. It was one of those late-era SNES games that tried something a little different, a submarine combat sim that felt more like a tense board game than a typical action title. It didn't get a lot of attention at the time, but it had a very specific, methodical appeal.

You control a single submarine, moving it square by square on a grid-based map. Your main goal is to hunt down and sink all the enemy ships and subs on each stage before they can do the same to you. The signature mechanics are all about stealth and prediction; you have to carefully manage your limited sonar pings to reveal enemy positions while trying to stay silent yourself, then line up torpedo shots that take several turns to travel across the board. The pacing is slow and deliberate, and a single mistake can leave you surrounded with no escape. It feels like a high-stakes game of naval chess played in near total darkness.
