I picked up Bikkuri Nekketsu Shinkioku on Game Boy back in 1992, a time when handhelds were full of experiments. Technos Japan Corp. put it out, and it's one of those oddball titles that didn't get much attention outside Japan. It's a turn based strategy game set in the Kunio-kun universe, which was a surprise if you were used to the beat 'em up action of River City Ransom.

You control a group of characters on a grid based map, moving them one by one to attack rival gangs. The main goal is to defeat all enemies on each stage. Signature mechanics include setting up ambushes, using environmental objects like bikes as weapons, and managing your team's limited movement per turn. The pacing is deliberate, almost chess like, but with sudden bursts of cartoon violence. It feels like a messy, clever brawl that rewards patience and opportunism.
