What I love is how physical it feels—running backs can hurdle or spin out of tackles, and on defense, you can dive for interceptions or swat passes mid-air. The little receiver windows for passing take some getting used to, but once you do, threading a perfect throw between defenders feels awesome. And if you want some extra challenge, tweak the quarter length or play in snow/rain where everything gets slippery. The SNES version has a full season mode, but even without it, the playoff brackets and exhibition matches keep it fun.

It’s not the flashiest football game now, but the gameplay’s solid, and there’s something satisfying about the way the pixelated players move. Definitely a gem if you dig retro sports titles.
